Hear my words, ye people
Evening Service in D major 'Great Service'

Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry (1848–1918)
James O'Donnell conductor
Daniel Cook organ
The Choir of Westminster Abbey
Onyx Brass

Recorded in the very building for which many of these pieces were written, this disc opens with the famous coronation anthem I was glad, heard here in a brand new arrangement by Grayston Ives. The disc also includes a rousing rendition of Jerusalem and new brass arrangements of Hear my words, ye people and the Coronation Te Deum, as well as Blest pair of sirens–Parry's setting of Milton's ode At a Solemn Music, famously sung by the Abbey Choir at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Reviews

"The way that the words and music fill the resonant architectural expanses while, under James O'Donnell's knowledgeable direction, remaining sharply focused is another thrilling facet of this performance"

- The Telegraph (Geoffrey Norris)

"The sound is excellent; the choir is well focussed and ‘present’ while the organ is reported thrillingly"

- MusicWeb International (John Quinn)
