Honorary Steward (Usher Volunteers) - Ref: VOL012

Westminster Abbey is seeking enthusiastic and welcoming individuals to join their team of Honorary Stewards, also known as Ushers. This is a unique role that was established in 1851, at the time of the Great Exhibition.

This volunteer role offers a unique chance to contribute to the welcoming and historic atmosphere of one of the world's most iconic landmarks. As an Honorary Steward, you will be responsible for assisting at services by welcoming, seating, and directing members of the congregation, ensuring that each visitor has a memorable and respectful experience. Your duties will include supporting regular and special services, attending briefings, and assisting with various ceremonial tasks. This role is perfect for those who are passionate about history, committed to service, and eager to be part of a prestigious institution.

This role may at times require volunteers to be available on weekends and during the evenings.

As an Honorary Steward, you will be expected to be available for duty for at least five Sunday Services, on a minimum of three Sundays every quarter; ten Stewards usually required for each week’s Sunday services. Honorary Stewards are also expected to be available for duty for at least two “Special” Services each quarter, most of which are during the week. These can be Memorial Services or Services to recognise anniversaries, public events or organisations.

You do not need to have been an Honorary Steward before, but understanding how Ushers fulfil duties will be ideal. Full training will be given.

Perhaps, you’ve come across this opportunity, and it isn’t quite for you, but you know who it might be perfect for, please do forward it to them.
