Security Supervisor - Ref: WA311

The Security Department is seeking to recruit a security supervisor to join the existing team of individuals who occupy the role of Senior Beadle. Operating at a supervisory level within the team will involve working on a rota basis (involving nights, weekends and public holidays), ensuring the safety and security of the Abbey site for visitors, worshippers, pupils and residents on a 24-hour basis, and managing a small team of security officers, who fulfil the historic role of Security Beadle.

Permanent – Full time

(an average of 40 hours per week, including nights)

Salary £39,137.99 per annum

Utilising your previous experience of security team supervision, you will act as the initial point of contact for all enquiries that arise, and site supervision. As a line manager, you will manage attendance, which will include organising and facilitating return to work meetings following staff absence and ensuring that attendance (including holiday and sickness) is accurately updated on the employee database in a timely manner for both your direct reports and the wider team of Security Beadles.  You will also provide professional support and assistance to the Deputy Head of Security (such as support with assessment during the recruitment and selection of new staff) and deputise for him when required.

You will hold a security qualification, minimum of BTEC Level 3 in Security Management, or relevant equivalent, such as police/military. With your accomplished verbal communication skills, the ability to be persuasive, firmly polite and professional, you will be able to deal with critical incidents under pressure in a calm manner when required.

Facilities Attendant - Ref: WA303

Westminster Abbey is looking to recruit a Facilities Attendant to keep the Abbey and precincts clean, and to set up and clear seating for services and special events in and around the Abbey. Working as part of the Visitor Experience team, the role also provides porter-type assistance within the Abbey precincts, and plays a crucial part in keeping the Abbey clean and tidy for all who visit, work and volunteer here.

Part time, Permanent (20 hours)

Salary: £13,676 per annum

FTE: £27,352 per annum

The job involves a large amount of lifting, as well as working both inside and outside. The successful post holder must have knowledge of cleaning techniques and products, and also be able to work effectively as part of a team and on their own.

Westminster Abbey is seeking to increase the team of Security Beadles to work towards ensuring the safety and security of the Abbey site for visitors, worshippers and residents.

Permanent – Full time

Successful candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be able to work alone, with a shift partner and with Abbey colleagues. Candidates should have experience of being vigilant and providing a security service to the general public, coupled with an ability to act decisively and on their own initiative in sometimes difficult situations. You will cover a 24/7 shift rota, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays.

There are a number of posts available, including full-time posts (equivalent to 40 hours a week) and one minimum-hour post, which will require the postholder to work a minimum of 16 hours a month.

Works Office Administrator - Ref: WA323

We are looking for an effective and capable administrator to provide a comprehensive office administration service to the Works Department and to assist the Clerk of the Works with correspondence and diary management. Accountable to the Office Manager and Project Coordinator, you will work in close collaboration with your departmental colleagues, as well as having frequent contact with the wider Abbey community and external contractors and suppliers.

Gardening Apprentice - Ref: WA319

Westminster Abbey seeks an enthusiastic ‘Gardening Apprentice’, who will embark on a new apprenticeship scheme, where you will work for an iconic Royal Peculiar to work alongside a committed, friendly and supportive team of professional gardeners with a breadth of valuable experience.

Full-time (40 hours a week 8am – 4 pm)  

Fixed Term (up to 28 months)  

Salary – up to £24,000 per annum

Those selected will study for a minimum of 18 months and will be paid a full-time annual salary between £21,000 (for students aged 16-18) and £24,000 (for students aged 19 and above).  

Motivated and willing to learn 

The successful apprentice will be taught a range of gardening and horticultural skills such as plant identification, propagation and landscape design. The role offered is full-time (8am – 4pm), and will involve students working primarily in College Garden, as well as various historical outside spaces across the Abbey precincts, whilst also spending one day a week at Capel Manor College's Regent's Park campus.  

If you feel excited about the prospect of working outside in all weathers and have a passion for gardening/horticulture with a positive attitude to work that is often physically demanding, but always rewarding, we are keen to hear from you. 

We are confident that our new apprenticeship programme will equip you with the skills and expertise to embark on a worthwhile career in the field of gardening/horticulture. 

What we can offer you 

You will learn from colleagues with a wealth of relevant experience, who are committed to mentoring and supporting a new apprentice to join them in a career that they enjoy and feel excited about sharing with others. You will spend four days on-site at Westminster Abbey and a day at College, embarking on your valuable study from September 2024, although your apprenticeship could commence earlier. You will work full-time at the Abbey, until your study begins.

Ticketing & Information Officer - Ref: WA327

We are looking to appoint a Ticketing & Information Officer to the Welcome Team. This role will involve you meeting and greeting visitors to the Abbey.

You will ensure our visitors receive a warm Abbey welcome at all times, whilst also issuing tickets, selling add-ons such as tours and guide books, and handling cash/credit card transactions.
